To get this effect, a parting tool was used to create the grooves, and then the metallic compound was mixed with a hardening agent and quickly applied, then left to set. Once this had hardened the bowl was finished off vv Beli Bowl.. Very similar to Zebrano, and therefore my tools needed to be sharpened a few times during the turning. I like the grain in this type of wood.v vLidded Banskia Nut pot with Blackwood lid. The Banskia nut was divided into two, and this piece was from one half. A collar and base of Macracarpa was added, and a lid was turned from African Blackwood. Ebonised Ash and Sycamore, with Padauk, lidded box. The ash base was turned from a square blank, as I wanted to keep the square shape at the top. This was then burnt, wire brushed, black polished and finished off. The Padauk lid was again from a square, following the curve of the Ash base. A piece of Sycamore was again burnt and finished, and a Padauk finial added to complete the effect. This skeleton clock in a piece of spalted beech, was made for my son and daughter-in-law. The wood was starting to go soft in places and I had to use sand and seal, and super glue to stabilise it. v v vA goblet with captive rings in rippled ash. The shape was kept fairly simple, and some beading was added. vv vA texturising tool was used on this bowl, then burnt and black polished. It was finished using a finishing oil to give a gloss finish. v v vSpalted beech bowl. The rim was left wider as it seemed to look right. Once again I needed to stabilise the wood, as it was soft in places. |
